Forget the bad ties and the car wash coupons, Adventure Bound has an exciting way to spend Father’s Day weekend and get ready for a summer of water-filled thrills.
On June 17 and 18, Adventure Bound and Holiday Valley will host a paddle sports weekend featuring free kayak and stand up paddle board (SUP) demos, live music and food.
Saturday’s event will be at Spruce Lake above Holiday Valley from 2:00 pm-7:00 pm. Holiday Valley will be hosting its annual Mudslide Trail Run that Saturday morning. So earn your water time by participating in the mud run prior to coming up to Spruce Lake for Paddle Fest!
Live music will be provided by cousins Zach Carr and Jonah Krull from Tonawanda. Zach & Jonah are a talented duo that have performed all across the WNY region using just their voices, guitar, and percussive instruments. Aside from being nominated as “Best Acoustic Act” of 2016 in Artvoice Magazine, Zach Carr won “Best Male Vocalist” of 2016 in ArtVoice’s “Best of Buffalo.” Together they perform covers of many different styles ranging from pop/jazz to bigband and swing music. Zach and Jonah love the gift of music and live to perform!
The Groove Health & Fitness will be offering demonstrations on SUP Yoga and SUP Fitness classes during the middle of the afternoon on Saturday. Classes will be open for booking this summer in collaboration with Adventure Bound Onthefly and Holiday Valley.
Saturday’s attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy food from a Hawaiian BBQ food truck. Enjoy the likes of Hawaiian BBQ Chicken, Crispy Shrimp with Katsu Sauce and BBQ Short Ribs.
Sunday’s event will be held at the Adventure Bound demo pond on Route 219, just north of Ellicottville from 10:00 am-3:00 pm.
Music on Sunday will be provided by Molly and the Lavender Kings. Siblings John and Molly Hastings have been surrounded and playing music since before they can remember. They were born and raised in the rolling hills of western NY and are now bringing their music to dusty bars, yoga practices, and camp fires. Yogi’s themselves, they are working on spreading the powerful vibe one song at a time. Accompanied by their good friend and lead guitarist Ian Adelstein, the group began to play together in 2015 and has been creating music together ever since.
The highlight of the paddle sports weekend event will be the introduction of a new line of inflatable SUPs from Ellicottville-based business, SUPonthefly. SUPonthefly has spent two years testing and producing boards with unique stability and design requirements to meet the needs of the fly fishing community. This year’s line will feature a retractable box that allows the center fin to automatically retract in shallow water or when bumping up against rocks in a river. SUPonthefly will be one of the only manufacturers in the world to feature this technology.
The Father’s Day weekend Paddle Sports Festival will also kick off a new SUP and kayak concession at Spruce Lake. Adventure Bound will be renting SUP’s and kayaks every weekend through the summer. Prices are $35 for two hours or $50 for a full day. Skip the lunch-prep hassle by ordering a picnic lunch though Holiday Valley’s McCarty Cafe.
We look forward to seeing you on the water this summer!
